“GlennView”<\/em> photos<\/strong>\u00a0(also known as “GlennViews”<\/em>) are pictures that purposely include parts of the cockpit or wing<\/strong> so as to put the viewer in the pilot seat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This technique is named in honor<\/em> of Glenn A. Hopper<\/strong>. Glenn<\/strong> is a good friend of mine whom I met at Central Christian Church <\/strong>some years back.<\/strong>\u00a0Employed at Spirit Aerosystems<\/strong><\/a>, he is a member of the illustrious group<\/strong> that has made Wichita, Kansas<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0“The Air Capitol of the World”<\/strong>. Glenn<\/strong> has been on The Sky Surfer’s Mailing List<\/strong> for some time and comments frequently at Church<\/strong> when he sees something on The Flight Blog<\/strong>\u00a0he likes.<\/p>\n I have been shooting movies<\/strong> and still photos<\/strong> for over thirty years<\/strong>. For the most part, when shooting from an airplane I have endeavored to shoot “around”<\/strong> any parts of the plane when featuring objects<\/strong> on the ground<\/strong> or when photographing<\/strong> another airplane<\/strong> “air to air”<\/em>. “Rightly or wrongly” (<\/em>in photography,\u00a0<\/em>a potentially lengthy discussion in itself) that has been my aesthetic principle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n On a flight to Sedan, Kansas<\/strong><\/a> I was blessed with that “rarity of rarities”<\/em> – a tailwind in both directions of a round trip flight<\/strong>. Additionally, on the leg home, because of the combination<\/strong> of this tailwind<\/strong> and the enormous convection lift<\/strong> off the fields, I was able to<\/strong> fly with the lowest power setting I have yet seen<\/strong>. In order to document<\/strong> this I took a picture featuring the instrument panel<\/strong> at the bottom<\/strong> and a Flint Hills<\/a> Panorama<\/strong> above.<\/p>\n Glenn<\/strong> was very impressed with this particular shot because he said “it put him in the Pilot’s seat”<\/em>. ZANG!<\/strong> At that moment my mind says “Sky Surfer – Why didn’t you think of that?”<\/em> and because I didn’t,<\/strong> I dedicate these shots to Brother Glenn<\/strong> and have coined the term “GlennView”<\/em><\/strong> to denote them.
